Is there maltodextrin in LYTES?

LYTES DOES NOT USE MALTODEXTRIN IN ITS FORMULA OR FLAVORS

Other brands use maltodextrin as a...

  • Carbohydrate Source
  • Bulking Agent (prevents clumping)
  • Flavor Carrier (used in the manufacturing of flavors)

Maltodextrin has been a hot topic in the electrolyte space lately. While some brands do use maltodextrin as a source of carbohydrates - the main talking point with maltodextrin and electrolytes is based around flavor carriers that are used during the production of flavors.

In reality - all flavors need a carrier to turn them from liquid extracts to dry powder - some are better than others. Maltodextrin is a commonly used carrier due to it's low cost, however it's not the only option.

Other options include:

  • Modified Food Starch
  • Dextrose
  • Acacia Gum*****

We use Acacia Gum - It's the most natural and cleanest option available. It's also minimally processed with zero additives.

Acacia gum is derived from acacia trees, specifically the stems and branches of Acacia Senegal or Acacia Seyal trees.

There are no chemicals used to manufacture acacia gum. Its manufacturing cycle starts as an exudate from the branches and stem that are then dried and used as an ingredient.

Since flavor carriers are part of the manufacturing process, they do not need to be labeled. However, we understand the importance of transparency and clean ingredients, which is why we choose acacia gum as our carrier.
